It means we take the time to get things right at the source – choosing the right microphone and finding its sweet spot, making sure you can hear yourself naturally while tracking, and capturing the energy of musicians playing together when possible. We have all the tools for modern production, but we use them to enhance great performances rather than fix problems.

Deep Montana Roots

Free River Studios grew from our love of Montana's diverse music scene. From folk singers to metal bands, traditional players to experimental artists, we've worked with musicians across genres who share one common thread – the desire to create authentic recordings that move people.

We named our studio after the Yellowstone River, which flows free and wild through Livingston. Like the river, we believe music should flow naturally, maintaining its power and character while being shaped by its surroundings. Our job is to capture that natural energy while helping it find its clearest expression.
